Kia ora!
Welcome to my personal writing space. I've been living in Aotearoa New Zealand for a long time, and I often find myself deep in the rabbit holes of special interests. I kind of need an outlet for them.
My Current Obsession: Paralives
Paralives is an upcoming indie life simulation game due to release in Early Access in December. It's been funded via Patreon for the last 5-6 years, and I am ✨ obsessed ✨ with it. You'll probably see some posts about it here.
How do you pronounce “Cynethryth”?
Great question! It's an Old English name. Cyn- is pronounced like kin, the -e- is a schwa (Ə) sound, and the -thryth is…well it's…it's a kind of a thrith sound. Like…take thrift and pith and smush 'em together.
Kin-uh-thrith, easy peasy. I totally thought this through when selecting this username.
Looking for Cynethryth, Queen of Mercia?
If you are looking for information regarding Cynethryth, the 8th century Queen consort of King Offa of Mercia, I'm sorry for the confusion. This is not a website about her!
I've been using Cynethryth's name online for years; I wasn't even the first to snab her name. Somehow, the dot com was free for the taking, so I yoinked it for my personal blog. 🤷♀️

We don't know a lot about her, and I am no historian. But you might want to read her Wikipedia page. 😄 Check out this sweet coin they made of her!
You may also be interested in Ælfgif-who? by Dr. Florence H R Scott. She maintains a nice, easy-to-read substack which focuses on "biographies of early medieval English women". You can read her mini-biography of Cynethryth here.
Again, very sorry about the confusion. I do occasionally get the itch to write about medieval queens consort, so feel free to have a little poke around and have a cup of tea.
